Tutors for Tally is looking for an individual that is able to work well in a team setting to provide support to our reading students and tutors. This person will be in charge of overseeing the reading program to ensure we provide the highest quality of service. A key component of this role is to assign and administer reading assessments, and to analyze the results with the goal of developing a learning plan to remediate foundational skill gaps in reading and writing. The position also consists of 1:1 tutoring to support students in the areas of reading, writing, and phonics.
The Reading Specialist must be able to work between 15-25 hours per week and be available during our peak hours of Monday- Thursday 3:30pm -8:00pm.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Consult frequently with staff on matters relating to reading instruction using a progress-monitoring instrument as a base.
2. Design interventions for reading and write plans detailing methods and materials.
3. Assist in the evaluation of ongoing programs and make recommendations for change/ improvement.
4. Assist tutors and other administrators and/or supervisors in implementing a reading program.
5. Help diagnose student’s reading strengths and weaknesses and match these skills with appropriate techniques and materials.
6. Consult with staff on topics such as textbook selection, vocabulary development, concept development, supplementary materials, and the development of study skills.
7. Work with the tutors to monitor student progress compiling data related to standards acquisition and writing reports.
8. Perform other responsibilities such as covering and supporting reading sessions on an as needed basis.
9. Be familiar with the RTI process, Tier’d Instruction, IEP and 504 plans as well as current scholarships offered for reading.
10. Create one reading-centered professional development presentation per semester and coordinate with the Assistant Director regarding the method of delivery to staff members.
