We are seeking an experienced Construction Accounting Coordinator to support the day-to-day accounting operations of a growing organization. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a construction environment and be proficient with Sage 100 or a comparable ERP system.
Key Responsibilities:
General Accounting
- Prepare and post journal entries and maintain the general ledger.
- Perform monthly bank and account reconciliations.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close activities.
- Prepare supporting schedules and financial reports for management.
- Review and analyze financial transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Job Cost Accounting
- Monitor project costs and maintain accurate job cost records.
- Review labor, subcontractor, material, and equipment costs by project.
- Assist with project cost analysis and profitability reporting.
- Reconcile job cost transactions and investigate discrepancies.
- Support project managers by providing financial reporting and budget updates.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Review and process vendor invoices and subcontractor payments.
- Monitor customer billings, collections, and outstanding receivables.
- Assist with payment applications, retainage tracking, and account reconciliations.
- Maintain accurate vendor and customer records.
Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports.
- Analyze budget-to-actual results and identify significant variances.
- Assist with cash flow reporting and forecasting.
- Provide financial data to support operational and management decisions.
Compliance & Audit Support
- Assist with internal and external audits by preparing requested documentation.
- Support sales and use tax filings and other regulatory reporting requirements.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and internal controls.
- Maintain organized financial records and supporting documentation.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Utilize Sage 100 to process accounting transactions and generate reports.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows and internal controls.
- Assist with ERP enhancements, system testing, and process improvements.
Qualifications
- Associates degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- 3–5+ years of accounting experience, preferably within the construction industry.
- Experience with job cost accounting and project-based financial reporting.
- Hands-on experience with Sage 100 required.
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and lookups.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with work-in-progress (WIP) schedules and percentage-of-completion accounting.
- Knowledge of construction billing, including progress billing and retainage.
- Experience working with subcontractors, project managers, and operations teams.
- Familiarity with payroll processing in a construction environment is a plus.
Pay: $36.00 - $43.00 per hour
