This position provides one-on-one support to an adult with disabilities who is primarily non-verbal and benefits from a structured, consistent environment. The individual enjoys community outings, daily routines, and spending time with familiar staff.
This is an active, hands-on role that requires staff to remain engaged throughout the shift. Candidates should enjoy being on the move, participating in community activities, encouraging independence, and providing consistent supervision both in the home and in the community.
The individual has significant behavioral support needs and may exhibit physically aggressive behaviors during periods of frustration or dysregulation. Successful staff remain calm under pressure, utilize positive behavior support and crisis intervention techniques, and respond professionally while maintaining the safety of everyone involved. Previous experience supporting individuals with challenging behaviors is essential.

Establish and maintain positive community relationships and friendships.

Assist with daily living activities including household tasks, meal preparation, eating, personal care, leisure activities, health and safety, money management, and behavior support.

Applicants must:

Be at least 18 years of age.

Have a high school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Have at least one year of direct support or related experience working with individuals with disabilities or behavioral support needs.

Possess a valid driver's license, access to an insured vehicle, and an acceptable driving record.

Successfully pass a Minnesota DHS background study.

Possess basic computer skills.

The Direct Support Professional is subject to flexible scheduling, including mornings, evenings, weekends, overnights, split shifts, and holiday coverage based on program needs. Staff may also be asked to provide coverage at other locations.
This position regularly involves community-based work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments. The role requires frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, reaching, and other physical activity throughout the shift.
The Direct Support Professional regularly interacts with individuals, family members, guardians, professionals, and members of the public, including those who may be emotionally distressed or upset. Staff should expect to work with individuals who may display challenging behaviors, including the potential for physical aggression, and must be able to respond appropriately using approved training and intervention techniques while maintaining a safe environment. The position may also involve exposure to infectious diseases, odors, dust, and other environmental conditions common in residential settings.
