Position Overview
Private School is seeking an experienced, mission-driven Director of Public Safety to lead our school's security and safety program. This senior leadership role is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the entire school community; students, staff, faculty, and visitors across all campus locations.
The Director will develop and implement comprehensive safety protocols, oversee a team of safety personnel, and serve as the school's primary liaison with local law enforcement and emergency services. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive security/safety program, including policies, procedures, and protocols that promote a safe learning environment.
- Oversee daily operations of the security department, including staffing, training, and performance management of safety personnel.
- Conduct regular assessments of campus security measures and emergency response plans, making recommendations for improvements as necessary.
- Serve as the primary liaison with local law enforcement and emergency services, fostering strong partnerships to enhance community safety.
- Lead investigations of safety-related incidents, analyzing findings to recommend preventative measures.
- Develop and conduct safety training and drills for students, staff, and emergency responders to ensure preparedness for various emergencies.
- Monitor and analyze trends and data related to safety and security, providing regular reports to school leadership and stakeholders.
- Stay informed about industry best practices, compliance standards, and emerging security technologies to ensure the security/safety program remains effective and up to date.
- Collaborate with IT and Facilities teams to integrate technology and address physical security needs.
- Promote community engagement through safety awareness initiatives and collaborative programs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Safety, Emergency Management, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10–15 years of experience in public safety, security management, or law enforcement, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Knowledge of K-12 educational environments and safety protocols tailored to schools strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and manage comprehensive safety and security programs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, families, faculty, and outside agencies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to respond proactively to safety concerns.
- Certified Protection Professional (CPP) certification or equivalent preferred.
- Must meet all requirements for an Armed Officer, including applicable state licensing, firearms qualification, and background clearance.
Pay: $80,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
