QualificationsRequired
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Graduate of an accredited Veterinary Technology program, or equivalent veterinary experience
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Commitment to patient safety and high-quality care
Preferred
- Certified, Licensed, or Registered Veterinary Technician (CVT/LVT/RVT)
- Fear Free Certification or willingness to obtain
- Prior experience in companion animal practice
- Experience with electronic medical record systems
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to:
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift throughout the workday
- Lift and carry patients and equipment up to 50 pounds independently and more with assistance
- Safely restrain animals of varying sizes and temperaments
- Work in a busy environment with exposure to animal-related hazards, including scratches, bites, zoonotic diseases, odors, and cleaning chemicals

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPatient Care & Nursing
- Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care to hospitalized and outpatient pets
- Obtain and document patient histories and vital signs
- Perform patient assessments and communicate findings to veterinarians
- Monitor patient comfort and advocate for patient welfare
- Utilize Fear Free and low-stress handling techniques whenever possible
- Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians
- Accurately maintain electronic medical records
Anesthesia & Surgery
- Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures
- Induce, monitor, and recover patients under anesthesia
- Monitor vital parameters and respond appropriately to changes in patient status
- Maintain anesthetic and surgical equipment
- Assist veterinarians during surgical and dental procedures
- Ensure proper cleaning, sterilization, and maintenance of surgical instruments
Laboratory & Diagnostic Procedures
- Collect blood, urine, fecal, and cytology samples
- Perform in-house laboratory testing and maintain quality control standards
- Prepare samples for outside laboratory submission
- Obtain high-quality diagnostic radiographs
- Assist with ultrasound procedures and advanced diagnostics
- Perform ECGs and other diagnostic procedures as required
Treatment & Emergency Care
- Place and maintain intravenous catheters
- Calculate and administer fluid therapy
- Administer SQ, IM, IV, and oral medications as permitted by state regulations
- Assist with emergency and critical care procedures
- Recognize changes in patient condition and promptly communicate concerns to the veterinarian
- Support CPR efforts following RECOVER guidelines
Client Communication & Education
- Educate clients on preventative care, vaccinations, nutrition, medications, and treatment plans
- Review post-operative and discharge instructions with clients
- Discuss diagnostic recommendations and treatment plans as directed by veterinarians
- Provide exceptional client service while demonstrating empathy and professionalism
- Answer client questions appropriately and refer medical concerns to veterinarians when necessary
Teamwork & Hospital Operations
- Foster a positive, respectful, and collaborative work environment
- Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized hospital
- Participate in inventory management and supply monitoring
- Support efficiency and workflow throughout the hospital
- Assist with training and mentoring new team members
- Participate in staff meetings and continuing education opportunities
