Position Summary
Great Lakes Dryhootch, a peer support organization serving veterans and civilians throughout Milwaukee County, is seeking a Peer Support Specialist with a master's degree to provide recovery-oriented, community-based services.
This position is an opportunity for a master's-level professional to combine formal education and professional experience with lived experience to provide meaningful, person-centered peer support. The ideal candidate is compassionate, dependable, self-directed, and comfortable working with individuals who may have complex mental health, substance use, trauma, and co-occurring needs.
The position is based at 1030 E Brady Street, but services are primarily provided in the community, including participants' homes and other locations where they live and spend time. Reliable transportation is required.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one peer support services in participants' homes and community settings
- Build trusting, recovery-oriented relationships using lived experience and professional knowledge
- Support participants in identifying, developing, and working toward individualized recovery goals
- Assist participants in navigating mental health, substance use, healthcare, and community resources
- Help participants identify strengths, develop coping strategies, and build greater independence
- Promote recovery, wellness, self-advocacy, and community stability
- Recognize changes in participant needs and appropriately communicate concerns to the treatment team
- Collaborate with participants, providers, family/support systems, and community partners, with appropriate consent
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and ethical standards
- Complete accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record
- Participate in team meetings, clinical supervision, case consultation, and required trainings
- Manage an assigned caseload and schedule services independently
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in social work, counseling, psychology, behavioral health, human services, criminal justice, or a related field
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent undergraduate education
- Lived experience with mental health, PTSD, substance use, recovery, or co-occurring challenges
- Completion of Wisconsin Peer Specialist training, or ability to complete required training
- Current Wisconsin Certified Peer Specialist certification, or ability to obtain certification within the required timeframe
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Ability to establish trusting relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and work independently in community settings
- Ability to manage a caseload, schedule appointments, and meet documentation requirements
- Reliable transportation for community-based services
- Valid driver's license and automobile insurance
- Ability to meet required background-check and eligibility requirements
- Professional references available upon request
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional experience in mental health, substance use, behavioral health, social work, counseling, or human services
- Experience providing peer support or recovery-oriented services
- Experience working with individuals with complex or co-occurring needs
- Experience working with veterans or military-connected individuals
- Experience with care coordination or community-based services
- Experience with electronic health records and clinical/service documentation
- Knowledge of recovery-oriented and trauma-informed approaches
- Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team

Pay: $34.90 - $35.00 per hour
