Duties
- Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) aligned with state and federal regulations, ensuring personalized learning goals for each student.
- Design specialized curricula that accommodate various learning styles and incorporate innovative teaching methods, including co-teaching instruction and the integration of learning technology.
- Manage classroom behavior effectively using evidence-based strategies such as applied behavior analysis (ABA) and behavioral therapy techniques tailored for students with autism and other developmental disabilities.
- Adapt instructional materials and assessments to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities, including those requiring deaf education or literacy support.
- Collaborate closely with general education teachers, therapists, counselors, and families to coordinate services, share insights, and ensure seamless educational experiences.
- Monitor student progress through formative and summative assessments, including standardized testing, and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
- Maintain detailed records of IEP implementation, behavioral interventions, lesson plans, and compliance documentation following educational regulations and standards such as the Chicago Manual of Style.
Skills
- Proven experience working with children with disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), developmental disabilities, and physical or sensory impairments.
- Strong classroom management skills combined with expertise in behavior management for students with special needs.
- Exceptional communication skills for effective collaboration with colleagues, families, and external specialists.
- Proficiency in curriculum development across core subjects such as math (including algebra and calculus), literacy education, creative writing, and physical education adaptations.
- Knowledge of special education law, IEP development and implementation, educational compliance requirements, and standardized testing procedures.
- Ability to adapt lessons based on individual learning styles using innovative teaching tools and assistive technologies.
- Experience designing specialized curriculums for diverse student populations while maintaining high standards of educational quality.
- Familiarity with teaching methodologies such as Montessori or other progressive approaches suited for special education settings.
- Strong organizational skills for lesson planning, tutoring sessions, academic advising, mentoring, and library services coordination when necessary.

Pay: $63,831.00 - $120,137.00 per year
