American Traveler is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with 2+ years of experience for a night shift position at a large academic teaching hospital, with expertise in mechanical ventilation and ICU care.

Work at a large, 1,259-bed short-term acute care teaching hospital
-
Covers both ICU and general floor settings

Night shift schedule: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM (3x12-hour shifts per week)

Every third weekend rotation required

Holiday coverage is expected

Floating within scope to cover both ICU and floor needs

Epic EMR used; experience required
-
Block scheduling is not available
-
Current RRT credential required
-
BLS (BCLS) certification required
-
Valid Missouri Respiratory Care Practitioner License required at time of consideration; pending license may be accepted — license required if applicable

Minimum 2 years of respiratory therapy experience
-
Proficiency with airway management: endotracheal tube/suctioning, extubation, nasal airway suctioning, oral airway placement, oropharyngeal/suctioning, sputum specimen collection, and tracheostomy/suctioning
-
Experience with mechanical ventilator management including BiPAP, CPAP, troubleshooting high-pressure alarms, and weaning
-
Experience administering inhaled medications including Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Inhaled Flolan, inhaled steroids, Lidocaine, Nitric Oxide (iNO), Pulmicort, Racemic Epinephrine, and Xopenex

Experience with nebulizer delivery: handheld, T-piece, trach collar, and ultrasonic

ABG interpretation required

High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) oxygen therapy experience required

Epic EMR experience required

Ability to walk relatively long distances across a large hospital campus

Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible

Care for patients with acute and chronic respiratory diseases across ICU and floor settings

May occasionally be asked to precept respiratory therapy students given the facility's teaching hospital status
-
Active AARC membership and a bachelor's degree (or active pursuit of one) are strongly preferred
-
Medium to dark gray scrubs required
-
RTO is limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract; no RTO during the first week of orientation
-
Former permanent employees of BJC facilities must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
-
Allied travelers may remain for up to 12 months, after which a 6-month break in service is required before returning
