A long-term substitute special education teacher is needed for the elementary, intensive needs classroom located in the Winooski School District. This teacher would be responsible for classroom instruction and case management for students grades 2-5 in a multi-aged setting. QUALIFICATIONS Must hold Vermont License as Special Education Teacher at the elementary level or be eligible for a provisional license. Experience working with students on the autism spectrum and/or students with multiple and low-incidence disabilities would be preferred.
Experience working with students who are multilingual (ML) would be a plus. Summary of Position Responsibilities - Case manage, coordinate and provide an effective system of special education and support designed to meet the needs of students with intensive needs including students with low incidence disabilities, students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other students who demonstrate significant learning difficulties that require intensive intervention and instruction. Responsibilities include: Provide instruction in academics, functional, communication and social skills to students.Collaborate effectively with large teams. Planning and organizing appropriate learning experiences in content areas.Maintain productive lines of communication with students, parents, and colleagues concerning both the academic and social progress of all students.Possess the ability to plan creatively for developmental and behavioral issues.Facilitate the IEP process, including adhering to appropriate state and federal guidelines and procedures.Supervision of instructional assistants.Support the district evaluator by attending eligibility meetings for special education eligibility in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations, policies, procedures, and laws.Soliciting and/or receiving regular feedback, such as progress reports, incident reports, outside assessments, and data.
Effectively integrates information and makes recommendations for the IEP team. Completion of progress updates & report cards.This candidate must be a team player who has strong communication, collaboration and time management skills.
