Responsible for performing a variety of duties related to health care, services, and Activities of Daily Living (ADL) which promote, enhance, and maintain resident health and independence. Complies with established policies and procedures. Work is performed under the regular supervision of a licensed LPN or RN and under the general direction of the Director of Nurses.
Full-Time Certified Nursing Assistants: 2nd shift (2:30pm to 11:00pm)
Pay Range: $17.85/hour to $23.00/hour with shift differential (3:00pm to 11:00pm)
PLUS Weekend Differential of an extra $3.00/hour!

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Demonstrates competency with equipment and skills to perform daily routine resident
care and other tasks safely. Follows work assignments as scheduled.
Reports to the charge nurse any changes in the resident’s appearance / condition,
general health and/or welfare on a daily basis.
Assists residents with personal care including but not limited to: bathing, shampooing
hair, dressing, shaving, nail care, hair care, denture care, skin care, incontinence care,
and grooming needs. Provides toileting assistance as needed. Provides urinals,
bedpans, and empties catheter bags. Collects urine and stool specimens in appropriate
containers.
Documents intake / and outputs as indicated by the charge nurse.
Using stand pivot transfer, sit to stand transfers, Hoyer lifts, stand-up lifts, and gait belt,
transfers residents safely and according to set procedures.
Assists residents with meals to include: setting up trays, delivering trays to rooms,
following meal ticket recommendations, feeding, and providing fluids and snacks.
Provides additional in-room hydration (i.e. water or thickened liquids) and ensures
liquids are within reach of the resident.
Ensures residents are dressed appropriately for the season and assists residents in
using clothing protectors to shield clean clothing as necessary.
Provides a neat and clean environment. Makes beds and ensures rooms are arraged in
a safe manner. Observes environment for potential fall hazards and provides
interventions to charge nurse for prevention.
Provides safe environment for all residents as a member of the QAPI team.
Takes resident’s temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure as necessary.
Answers call lights timely.
Assists residents with ambulation and in providing restorative and rehabilitative nursing
care.
Assists with preparing for and transporting residents to special functions, activities, and
beauty shop.
Observes and follows resident’s rights of dignity, respect, and privacy.
Reports potential signs or actual signs of abuse or neglect of resident care as a Virginia
Mandated Reporter.
Understands emergency policies and be able to carry out and follow directions in an
actual emergency.
Follows infection control practices per facility policies and procedures.
Provides appropriate care for those residents with undesired behaviors.
Maintains HIPPA regulations and confidentiality for residents and co-workers.
Follows all personnel policies of Bedford County Nursing Home. Understands the
progressive Bedford County disciplinary process.
Performs other duties as directed and assigned by supervisor or the Director of Nursing.
Participates in employee meetings and training as needed. Will be required to attend
mandatory in-services as scheduled.
Performs special projects as assigned.
Meets attendance requirements and maintains the highest level of dependability. Will
work assigned schedule and will be responsible for clocking in and out accurately.
Consistently demonstrates ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner
in order to meet current needs, and reprioritizes work as necessary.
Education/Experience:
Requires completion of an approved Nurse Aide training program and Nurse Aide Certification from the Virginia Board of Professions.
CNA’s work within the scope of practice as defined by the Virginia Board of Health Professions.
Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with all levels of residents, families, and staff.
Proficient in nursing assistant skills.
Certifications/Licenses:
Certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant from the Virginia Board of Professions within 120 days of hire.
Employee will be responsible to keep their nurse aide certification current.

Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word

Visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, peripheral vision, visual inspection involving small defects and /or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of machines, operation of equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
Environmental Factors:
May be exposed to blood borne pathogens and infectious agents.
May be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
Special/Additional Requirements:
Subject to a complete criminal history background search and drug screening with acceptable results.
The worker will be required to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as defined by the needs of the department.
