Performs the functions of a Registered Occupational Therapist in evaluating, planning, implementing, and educating all referred patient care, under the supervision of the Director of Therapy Services, Outpatient Manager, and Inpatient Manager and Supervisor. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission and values.

Performs testing and evaluation procedures as indicated.
- Plans and implements Occupational Therapy program for each patient based on therapist’s findings and physician’s prescription.

Instructs patient in exercise routines, home program, use of adaptive equipment and self-care activities. Instructs patient’s family in these areas if needed. Fabricates self-care or orthotic devices, as necessary.

Records and reports patient initial, progress and discharge notes in a timely way.

Attends scheduled team conferences and discharge planning meeting, as needed.

Promotes safe environment for patients and staff in hospital.

Supervises technicians and certified occupational therapy assistants.

Issues, tracks, and monitors wheelchairs and wheelchair cushions, as needed.

Performs modalities as needed.

Responsible for O.T. inventory and ordering of supplies/equipment.

Maintains department in an orderly manner.

Assumes delegated supervisory responsibilities for various levels of student affiliate training program.

Provides liaison with Nursing Division and medical staff with patient care and O.T. patients.

Performs other work duties as assigned.
Employee is required to sit, stand, and walk continuously. Employee must lift/carry a light (20# max) load continuously, a medium (50# max) load continuously and a heavy (100# max) load frequently. Employee is required to bend, squat, crawl, reach forward and kneel frequently; lift floor to waist and lift waist to overhead frequently. For repetitive action, employee is required to use one or both hands for simple grasping, pushing/pulling and fine manipulation. Employee is exposed to electrical hazards and CRT terminal work occasionally. Employee is frequently exposed to blood borne pathogens.
Verbal ability is necessary to understand terminology and its application to occupational therapy; to communicate with patients, staff, and physicians; to conduct training and to prepare meaningful reports. Numerical ability is required to compute patient charges and to assist in collecting data for various reports. Clerical perception is needed to keep accurate records of patient treatments, reaction, and progress; also needed in preparing training courses. Spatial and form perception is needed to visualize anatomical structure of the disabled part of the body and relation of the therapeutic devices in remedial actions. Good body mechanics are needed to minimize strain when transferring and treating patients. The therapist must demonstrate an ability to work with people tactfully and exhibit qualities of decision-making, judgment, and motivation. Visual acuity to perceive reactions to treatment and to read instructions. Motor coordination and manual and finger dexterity are necessary in performing therapy and using therapeutic equipment.

The most significant of duties are included but this does not exclude occasional work assignments not mentioned or developmental duties.
1. Graduate of a professional Occupational Therapy curriculum accredited by the National Accreditation of the Profession. Must hold a Baccalaureate, Master’s, or Doctorate Degree in Occupational Therapy.
2. Must be licensed or eligible for licensure by Missouri State Board of Healing Arts
3. Must be certified in CPR.
The assessment, care and treatment provided by the Occupational Therapist will be consistent with the specific age-related needs of the patient. The Occupational Therapist is competent to care for patient age groups including the child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric adult patient.
