Respite Caregiver – Autism Support Professional (Part-Time)

SLO & Steady Management is seeking compassionate, dependable, and energetic caregivers to join our team supporting a teen with significant autism support needs. This is an opportunity to build a meaningful career while making a genuine difference in someone's life every day.
We are looking for someone with open availability who can work up to 20 hours per week, with shifts scheduled as early as 6:30 AM and as late as 9:30 PM.
About the Position
You will be providing support for a teen with severe autism who has a limited vocabulary and uses the Proloquo2Go program to support communication. He is friendly and enjoys engaging with people but requires continuous supervision and hands-on assistance throughout the day.
This position includes:
- Providing constant supervision to ensure safety
- Assisting with toileting, bathing, dressing, grooming, and other personal hygiene needs
- Encouraging verbal communication and supporting use of AAC (Proloquo2Go program)
- Assisting with meals and daily living activities
- Participating in recreational and community activities
- Monitoring for medical concerns, including migraines and seizures
- Remaining attentive to elopement risks and responding appropriately to ensure safety
- Responding calmly and professionally to occasional self-injurious behaviors
- Maintaining a positive, patient, and encouraging environment
This is a physically active position. Applicants should be comfortable walking, remaining on their feet for extended periods, and responding quickly when necessary.
Training
No previous autism experience is required for the right candidate.
We provide approximately 30 hours of paid training at $23 per hour, including orientation, individualized instruction, safety procedures, and client-specific support techniques.
If you are not currently certified in First Aid and CPR, we will provide that training as part of your onboarding process.
Compensation
- Paid training: $23/hour
- Starting wage after successful completion of training: $25/hour
- Performance evaluations conducted at least annually with opportunities for wage increases based on performance and continued development
