Director of Preconstruction – Commercial Construction
$150K–$200K+ base + bonus + strong executive-level benefits package
This is a Director of Preconstruction opportunity with one of the most respected and relationship-driven commercial general contractors in Northeast Ohio.
Unlike many contractors where preconstruction is purely numbers-driven, this role offers direct visibility with executive leadership, ownership groups, operations teams, and clients, providing the ability to truly influence project strategy, client relationships, and company growth.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
- Lead all estimating and preconstruction activities from conceptual budgeting through final bid execution
- Oversee estimating team workloads, mentorship, and professional development
- Develop conceptual budgets, detailed cost estimates, and pricing strategies across multiple project types
- Review subcontractor bids, proposals, scope alignment, and procurement strategy
- Partner closely with operations, project management, and business development teams during project pursuits
- Participate in client meetings, design-build coordination, and early-stage strategy discussions
- Improve and standardize estimating procedures, systems, and internal preconstruction processes
- Manage bid schedules, resource allocation, and overall preconstruction workflow
- Help position projects for successful execution through early planning, risk identification, and value engineering
- Serve as a key leader influencing both project outcomes and broader company strategy

Ideal Background
- 10+ years of commercial construction estimating experience with a General Contractor
- Proven experience leading preconstruction or estimating teams
- Strong background in conceptual estimating, budgeting, and negotiated work
- Experience managing complex commercial construction projects across multiple sectors
- Design-build and early-stage budgeting experience strongly preferred
- Strong leadership, communication, and client-facing abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
- Background across healthcare, multifamily, commercial, institutional, or mixed-use projects highly valued

Pay: $150,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year
