DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position guides inmate workers in daily food service operations and teaches essential vocational skills for food production and preparation. As a Corrections Food Service Instructor, you will perform the following duties:
- Food Service Instruction: Teach inmates how to prepare, produce, serve, and bake food while following safe and sanitary practices
- Safety Oversight: Inspect food areas, tools, equipment, and products to ensure they meet required safety and sanitation standards
- Supply Management: Review census and menu information, adjust recipes, recycle leftover food, and manage food and supply inventories
- Work Assignment Planning: Plan inmate work tasks, evaluate performance, and maintain all required inmate worker records
- Care and Custody: Maintain care and control over inmates during work assignments and exercise physical intervention if necessaryInterested in learning more? Additional details regarding this position can be found in the position description.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 40 hours/week
- Work hours and days off to be determined. Hours will be either 11:30 AM to 7:30 PM OR 4:45 AM to 12:45 PM, with a 30-minute lunch.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $49,010.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
