Tri-State Traffic Data Inc. is seeking a reliable and motivated Traffic Data Field Technician to support traffic data collection efforts across the North Country and surrounding regions (up to a 3-hour radius). This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, is mechanically inclined, and thrives in a dynamic, hands-on environment.
About the Role
As a Field Technician, you will play a critical role in collecting accurate traffic data for major contracts, including ongoing work with NYSDOT. You’ll be responsible for installing, maintaining, and retrieving traffic counting equipment, as well as supporting various field operations.
Most work is team-based (approximately 80%), but candidates must also be comfortable working independently when needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Install and retrieve traffic counting equipment (minimum of 40 sites per week)
- Set up rubber road tubes and connect them to traffic counters (MetroCount systems)
- Download and submit collected data to the central office
- Deploy and relocate traffic cameras at assigned locations
- Travel to job sites across the region (including Albany, Watertown, Utica etc.)
- Operate basic tools and equipment, including measuring tools and mapping/navigation software
- Maintain company vehicle, equipment, and inventory of supplies
- Follow all safety procedures while working on roadways
Work Environment
- Outdoor, field-based work in all weather conditions
- Projects range from rural roads to high-traffic roadways
- Travel required within a 3-hour radius
- Occasional night and weekend work may be required
Requirements
- Must reside in the Plattsburgh area.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Ability to lift up to 65 lbs and perform physical tasks (bending, lifting, standing)
- Comfortable driving for extended periods
- Basic computer skills, including email and file attachments
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Must be eligible to work on federal, state, and educational facilities
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Must pass a company drug test

Seasonal Schedule
