Technician I (Tech I) – Job Description Position Summary
The Technician I (Tech I) is an entry-level field technician responsible for assisting with the installation of low-voltage security systems including CCTV, access control, intrusion alarms, intercoms, cabling infrastructure, and related equipment. This position supports Tech II, Lead Technicians, and Installation Managers in completing project tasks safely, accurately, and efficiently. The Tech I learns industry standards, installation techniques, wiring methods, and system fundamentals while contributing to daily job-site progress.
This role requires strong work ethic, willingness to learn, attention to detail, and the ability to follow instructions in a fast-paced, construction-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Installation Support
· Assist in installing cabling, conduit, mounts, devices, hardware, and equipment under the direction of senior technicians.
· Pull cable through pathways, ceilings, walls, and conduit in accordance with company standards and NEC/low-voltage guidelines.
· Help terminate, label, dress, and test cables for CCTV, access control, network, and other low-voltage systems.
· Support mounting and placement of cameras, readers, sensors, panels, and equipment cabinets.
2. System Setup & Preparation
· Assist in basic device setup, equipment assembly, and hardware preparation.
· Help unpack, sort, and organize materials to support daily tasks.
· Follow instructions for placing devices according to floor plans, drawings, and installation diagrams.
3. Job-Site Organization
· Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
· Assist with transporting tools, equipment, and materials throughout the job site.
· Ensure all tools and materials are accounted for at the end of each workday.
· Support staging of equipment and preparation for upcoming tasks.
4. Safety & Compliance
· Follow all safety guidelines, PPE requirements, and job-site regulations.
· Use ladders, lifts, hand tools, and power tools safely and correctly under supervision.
· Identify and report hazards to senior technicians or Installation Managers.
· Participate in safety meetings and maintain awareness of construction site risks.
5. Documentation
· Assist with labeling, updating as-built notes, and other basic documentation.
· Record completed tasks under the direction of supervisors.
· Support accurate reporting of installed materials, device counts, and changes.
6. Collaboration & Team Support
· Work closely with Tech II, Lead Technicians, and Installation Managers to support job progress.
· Follow instructions accurately and ask questions to clarify when needed.
· Support senior team members in problem-solving, troubleshooting, or material needs.
· Maintain a positive, cooperative attitude on site.
7. Learning & Skill Development
· Gain knowledge of system components, cable types, low-voltage codes, and installation practices.
· Learn to use testing equipment, hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic tools.
· Shadow senior technicians to understand system functionality, device programming basics, and wiring diagrams.
· Participate in training, certifications, and internal skill development programs.
8. Customer Service
· Conduct oneself professionally in customer-facing environments.
· Maintain job-site cleanliness and respect site rules, schedules, and communication expectations.

Pay: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour
