Drake Companies is seeking a dependable and safety-oriented Water Truck Driver to support construction operations on active highway and heavy civil projects. This position requires a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a tanker endorsement and is responsible for operating a water truck to control dust, maintain proper moisture content for soil stabilization and compaction, and support paving, grading, and roadway construction activities. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, possess excellent situational awareness, and work effectively with project teams to ensure efficient job site operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Safely operate a water truck on active construction sites to provide dust control and maintain proper moisture levels for grading, compaction, and paving activities.
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle and spray systems are operating safely and efficiently.
- Monitor site conditions and adjust water application rates as directed to meet project requirements and changing weather conditions.
- Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, foremen, and equipment operators to support daily production goals.
- Maintain constant awareness of job site traffic patterns, personnel, equipment movements, and potential hazards.
- Keep the water truck clean, fueled, and properly maintained throughout each shift.
- Complete all required inspection reports, logs, fuel records, and safety documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Follow all company safety policies, DOT regulations, and project-specific requirements.
- Assist with general construction and labor duties as needed to support project operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Tanker Endorsement required.
- Previous experience operating a water truck in highway, heavy civil, or construction environments preferred.
- Experience operating construction equipment such as rollers, loaders, dozers, excavators, or other heavy equipment is a plus.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and job site conditions.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and hazard awareness.
- Ability to follow directions, communicate effectively, and work as part of a team.
- Reliable attendance and dependable work ethic.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, and perform physical tasks associated with construction operations.
- Ability to work extended hours, including occasional weekends, as project demands require.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds periodically.
