Piano Faculty Position Opening - August 2026
Sarasota Music Conservatory (SMC) is seeking an accomplished and engaging piano instructor to join its faculty starting immediately.
Founded in 2008, SMC is a nonprofit music school located downtown Sarasota, serving children, aspiring young musicians, and adult learners throughout the Sarasota community. Our faculty comprises professional performing artists and dedicated educators committed to providing high-level, individualized instruction within a collaborative and welcoming conservatory environment.
The position will begin with approximately five teaching hours per week and is intended to develop into a full-time teaching studio.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide individualized piano instruction to students ranging from young beginners to advanced musicians and adult learners
- Adapt teaching methods and repertoire to each student’s age, learning style, goals, and aspirations
- Prepare students for recitals, masterclasses, evaluations, auditions, and other performance opportunities, as appropriate
- Communicate professionally and reliably with students, families, faculty, and SMC staff
- Participate in faculty meetings, student recitals, and selected Conservatory activities
- Support the continued development of SMC’s piano program and contribute positively to its collaborative faculty culture
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree or higher in piano performance, piano pedagogy, music education, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may also be considered
- Demonstrated experience teaching students at multiple levels, from beginner through advanced
- Experience and genuine enthusiasm for teaching young children, as well as teens and adults
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Dependability, professionalism, and a student-centered approach to teaching
- Commitment to SMC’s mission and to fostering an encouraging and artistically rigorous learning environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Active professional performing experience
- Familiarity with established assessment or curriculum systems, such as the Royal Conservatory of Music
- Ability to teach music theory, musicianship, sight-reading, and/or solfège
- Experience accompanying or coaching instrumentalists and vocalists
- Interest in performing at faculty concerts, community outreach programs, fundraisers, and other SMC events
Position Details
- Part-time contract teaching position with the potential to develop into a full-time studio
- In-person instruction at Sarasota Music Conservatory in Sarasota, Florida
- Flexible teaching schedule based on faculty and student availability
- Anticipated start date: As soon as possible
- Final candidate must successfully complete a background screening
