A Durham, North Carolina-based jewelry gallery, specializing in a carefully curated selection of work from international and local designers, is seeking an Associate Metalsmith to join its in-house workshop. We are seeking a mid‑level jeweler who is eager to grow, refine their craft, and be mentored to meet the exceptional standards our clients expect. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented craftsperson with mid-level experience in stone setting, jewelry repair, and custom design. What You’ll Do
- Perform high-quality jewelry repairs including stone setting, ring sizings, polishing, stone tightening and more
- Collaborate with and receive mentoring from our chief goldsmith, performing repairs, restorations, and building custom and showcase jewelry
- Inspect and assess jewelry pieces to recommend proper repair and restoration techniques
- Maintain and operate jeweler's tools, machinery, and safety protocols with precision and care
- Maintain high standards for craftsmanship, safety, and care
- Ensure timely completion of work to support our five-star shopping experience
- Meet with clients to review repair and custom design details
Required Skills and Competencies
- Proficient in stone setting, soldering, polishing, and complex repair work
- Experience working in gold and silver and, ideally, in platinum
- Understanding of jeweler's tools, machinery, and workshop best practices
- Excellent attention to detail
- Effective verbal and written communication
