JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective:
Under the direction of the Center Manager the janitor will be responsible for the cleaning and upkeep of the center and premises according to the requirements of the Head Start Performance Standards, Georgia Bright from the Start Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) Rules and Regulations and Tallatoona CAP, Inc. Policies and Procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Sweep, vacuum and mop all floors (classrooms, offices, kitchen, cafeteria and hallways).
- Clean all bathrooms daily and stock with needed supplies (toilet paper, soap, towels, etc.).
- Take out trash daily, this includes classrooms, offices, common areas and cafeteria.
- Sweep/vacuum outside carpet daily, dust furniture in the entryway and keep entryways clean.
- Clean windows once per week.
- Pick up debris inside/outside the building, including the parking lot and playground.
- Change filters on heating/air conditioner units as needed.
- Light maintenance as needed and other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must be familiar with proper cleaning procedures and have prior experience cleaning in a non-residential facility.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds and perform physical manual labor necessary for cleaning.
- Must have the ability to work with diverse individuals inclusive of all ethnic, racial and cultural backgrounds.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a childcare environment. This role routinely requires interactions with children, parents, noisy and fast paced day to day activities
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
