Type: 1099 Independent Contractor | Change Management
We are seeking a Change Consultant to own dedicated change and readiness coverage for the Finance function within a multi-function enterprise transformation program. This role is embedded within Finance, supporting a G&A process optimization, operating model redesign, and spans-and-layers diagnostic, while the broader program spans several other business functions simultaneously.
This is a people- and process-transformation program, not a systems or IT rollout. The change work is about organizational readiness and adoption as Finance goes through process redesign: helping Finance leaders and teams navigate new operating patterns, accountability shifts, and structural changes, not managing a technical go-live.
The Finance function's process-mapping and G&A diagnostic work is landing on a rolling timeline. You'll need to build genuine engagement with Finance stakeholders, from CFO/senior Finance leadership to process owners and team members, without a fully finalized future-state to point to.
This role is best suited for someone with real experience in Finance function transformation, G&A optimization, finance operating model change, process redesign, spans-and-layers, not someone whose change management background is rooted in systems or ERP implementations.
Key Responsibilities
- Own change and readiness work for the Finance function within the program
- Build a stakeholder map and impact assessment specific to the Finance function — including CFO/senior finance leaders, process owners, and Finance team members affected by process redesign
- Support leader sponsorship activation planning tailored to Finance function stakeholders and leadership dynamics
- Apply the program's centrally built communication toolkit to the Finance function's specific context, audience, and pace
- Conduct change readiness assessments across the Finance function and track results over time as G&A process optimization and operating model work progresses
- Own adoption tracking and metrics for the Finance function through implementation
- Surface process-ownership, structural, or prioritization questions arising from Finance function change work for triage with program leadership
- Adjust readiness and adoption approach as Finance process-mapping outputs, G&A diagnostic findings, and scope decisions land
- Navigate Finance stakeholder dynamics during a period when process accountability and organizational structure are actively being redefined
Qualifications
- 5+ years of change management experience in consulting or a comparable transformation environment
- Genuine experience in Finance function transformation, G&A process redesign, finance operating model change, spans-and-layers decisions, or organizational diagnostic work, not primarily systems/ERP or technology-implementation change management
- Demonstrated understanding of how Finance and G&A functions operate: process ownership structures, finance team hierarchies, and the dynamics of a Finance function mid-redesign
- Prior experience working as a 1099 independent contractor or on commercial client engagements
- Demonstrated ability to build stakeholder trust and readiness within a Finance function while the broader transformation program is still resolving scope elsewhere
- Comfort operating without a fully finalized future-state to react to
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for CFO-level and Finance practitioner engagement
- Experience using AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, or similar platforms as a routine part of daily workflow
This Role Is NOT
- A systems/ERP OCM role built around a finance system go-live (SAP, Workday Finance, Oracle, etc.)
- A role for someone whose experience is primarily supporting Finance users through a technology implementation
- A role limited to one point-in-time training or communications event
- A role for someone who needs a fully mapped future-state process before starting readiness work
- A generalist role covering all functions at once, this role owns the Finance function's dedicated change coverage
Preferred Characteristics
- Familiarity with Finance/G&A function structures: understands process ownership models, finance team hierarchies, and what it looks like when a Finance function is restructuring how work gets done
- Comfortable engaging CFO-level and senior Finance leadership on readiness and organizational change topics
- Strong instinct for reading a Finance function's specific readiness gaps, especially when process accountability and spans-and-layers decisions are still being finalized
- Proactive about surfacing process-ownership or structural questions rather than waiting for them to be handed down
- Calm and steady when a function's pace shifts due to external dependencies or diagnostic findings that reframe scope
- AI-enabled by default: uses AI tools to accelerate readiness assessments, stakeholder materials, and adoption tracking
Pay: From $70.00 per hour
Application Question(s):
- This role supports a Finance function going through G&A process optimization and operating model redesign. Walk through a specific example where you led change work inside a Finance or G&A function that was being restructured or optimized, not change work delivered by Finance to the rest of the business. What made that transformation complex, and how did you approach it?
- This role requires genuine Finance process transformation experience: G&A redesign, operating model change, spans-and-layers decisions, not systems/ERP change management. Walk through a specific example of change work you led that was NOT tied to a technology implementation or go-live.
- Describe your experience engaging CFO-level or senior Finance leadership on change and readiness topics. What did you do differently for that audience compared to Finance process owners or team members?
- Describe a time you had to build stakeholder readiness or engagement before the future-state process or structure was fully defined. How did you approach it, and what did you tell Finance stakeholders when you didn't yet have the full picture?
- This role owns dedicated change coverage for the Finance function inside a larger, multi-function program still resolving scope elsewhere. Describe a time you led change work for one group while a broader initiative around you was still in flux.
- This is a 1099 independent contractor role. Hours are driven by client demand and are not guaranteed week to week. Payment is invoice-based on a Net-45 cycle. Have you worked as a 1099 independent contractor before? If yes, briefly describe the engagement. If no, describe how you would approach the financial planning this model requires.
- Describe a specific time you took on work that wasn't technically your responsibility because it needed to get done. What was the situation, and why did you step in?
