About the Role
RFD & Associates, Inc. is hiring a full-time, remote Sr. Observability Engineer. In this role, you will establish and maintain observability platforms to monitor complex systems' infrastructure and application performance. You will develop and configure monitoring solutions, design dashboards, troubleshoot systems, and work closely with IT teams to provide actionable insights. You will also assist in creating best practices for alerting, incident response, and overall system health checks to support reliability and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Set up, configure, and manage observability solutions like Dynatrace but you could be asked to learn a new product in the future.
- Implement and manage Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and dashboards using Dynatrace.
- Configure metrics, log ingestion, alerting strategies, tracing, and synthetic monitoring.
- Collaborate with DevOps, SRE, and application teams to integrate observability tools and improve system visibility.
- Analyze performance data and identify areas for optimization and increased reliability.
- Develop and maintain automated workflows for incident detection and reporting.
- Create documentation, provide training, and be an observability advocate across engineering teams.
Required Qualifications
- Current experience with Dynatrace
- Current Dynatrace Associate Certification
- Strong knowledge of monitoring, logging, and telemetry tools
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python or Shell for automation
- Understanding of cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, particularly in monitoring and performance management
- Knowledge of IT systems, including Linux/Windows servers and networking fundamentals
- Hands-on experience with dashboard development and alert rule configuration
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively and collaborate across teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Current Dynatrace Professional level certification
- Offline/Air-Gapped Dynatrace Managed experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field

Bonus Points
- Experience with additional observability tools: DataDog, New Relic, AppDynamics/Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, ElasticSearch or equivalent.
- Familiarity with infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform).
- DevOps or CI/CD experience.
- Understanding of SRE and ITIL methodologies.
- Exposure to compliance or regulated industry monitoring environments.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred
