About the Position
DIY Retaining Wall is seeking a motivated Project Engineer to support our growing Heavy Civil Infrastructure Department. This position is ideal for a Structural or Geotechnical Engineer with 3-5 years of experience who is pursuing professional licensure and is looking for an opportunity to manage projects, work directly with clients, and play a key role in the growth of a specialized engineering practice.
Our Heavy Civil Infrastructure Department focuses on the engineering and design of retaining wall systems and bridge-related components that support highways, transportation corridors, industrial facilities, and other critical infrastructure projects throughout the United States.
The successful candidate will work directly with contractors, fabricators, owners, and internal engineering staff to deliver high-quality designs on schedule while helping advance innovative and cost-effective solutions for our clients.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage multiple engineering projects from initial design through final delivery.
- Coordinate directly with contractors, fabricators, and project stakeholders regarding project requirements, schedules, and technical issues.
- Prepare engineering calculations, plans, details, specifications, and supporting documentation for heavy civil infrastructure projects.
- Design and analyze retaining wall systems, including:
- MSE Precast Panel Walls
- MSE Wire Walls
- Precast Modular Block Walls
- Perform structural and geotechnical evaluations associated with retaining wall and bridge-related infrastructure projects.
- Review project requirements, contract documents, and plans to identify design conflicts or constructability concerns.
- Collaborate with drafting and engineering personnel to ensure accurate and efficient project delivery.
- Conduct quality control reviews of engineering calculations, plans, and supporting design documentation.
- Participate in regular engineering and project status meetings.
- Ensure all assigned projects are completed within established schedules while maintaining high standards of technical excellence.
- Utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to improve engineering workflows, productivity, quality control, and project delivery.
- Support continuous improvement efforts within the Heavy Civil Infrastructure Department.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
- Minimum of 3 years of applicable engineering experience.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Candidates without a PE must be eligible to obtain PE licensure within six (6) months of hire.
- Strong understanding of structural and geotechnical engineering principles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to independently manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Experience working directly with clients, contractors, fabricators, or project stakeholders.

- Experience utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) platforms and tools in professional workflows

Experience with retaining wall design software, transportation infrastructure projects, DOT standards, bridge structures, and heavy civil construction is highly desirable.
Pay: $75,636.95 - $91,089.66 per year
