The Phoenix Theatre Company, Arizona’s largest professional regional theatre, seeks a Content Marketing Associate with a strong skill set and experience with an excellent eye for detail – who is passionate about written communications about live theatre.
About The Phoenix Theatre Company
Located in the heart of the Central Arts District close to downtown Phoenix, our beautiful 14-acre campus includes three theaters, a restaurant and bar, rehearsal halls, administrative offices, costume, scenic, prop, lighting and paint shops, all on one site. We produce a wide range of theatre, from full scale musicals to comedies, dramas and original new work. Our community service programs have gained national attention. With an over $10 million annual operating budget, and celebrating our 107th Season, we offer 10-12 diverse productions every season as well as a growing Festival of New American Theatre. This is a full time, exempt position.
Function
The Content Marketing Associate position is a critical strategic and creative thought partner in the Marketing + Communications Department. Through close collaboration with the marketing and communications team and other external-facing departments, this role ensures proper brand tone, quality, and execution of external-facing communication. The associate will be the lead content creator for the multitude of communications efforts deployed by the company. This role is well suited for a highly creative, articulate, positive, energetic individual – with an excellent eye for detail – who is passionate about written communications about live theatre.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and write copy for web, social media, email, print, letters, scripts and other pertinent documents to further the company’s mission, in collaboration with stakeholders and marketing department. This includes marketing of shows, development pieces, summer and fall camps, festivals and other programs as needed
- Proof and edit copy
- Research and compile information for all external communication pieces
- Write and proof press releases
- Strategize on social media content calendar, themes and schedule content in collaboration with the team, responsible for acquisition of multimedia materials and assets distributable across any platform and digital ads
- Act as the designated backup for press spots and press release publishing using Meltwater
- Provide design support for digital ads, social posts, ad support, retouching, video editing, and digital signage
- Collaborate on marketing and communications plans as requested
- Provide support for press efforts, including photo shoots, maintenance of press assets, updating local calendars, and providing day-of event support
- Maintain general knowledge of industry best practices concerning traditional marketing, digital marketing, email marketing, and social media
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of departmental goals and theatre-wide initiatives

- Frequent real-time feedback from the Associate Director of Marketing and Communications
- Performance Reviews provided by the Associate Director of Marketing and Communications
- A right to a Performance Improvement Plan as outlined in the Employee Handbook if deemed necessary
- Patron and client feedback
- Timeliness and quality of The Phoenix Theatre Company’s marketing product
- Timeliness of completing projects according to deadlines
Organizational Relationships
- Reports to the Associate Director of Marketing
- Collaborates with the Marketing + Communications team
- Collaborates with other departments within The Phoenix Theatre Company
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, English, Theatre, or similar areas
- Experience with web-based marketing tools, including email marketing tools (WordFly, Constant Contact, Prospect2), surveys (TypeForm, Survey Monkey, etc.), and CRM technology (Tessitura, etc.)
- Experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Superior research skills

- Superior attention to detail with a flair for language and an eye for design
- Ability to collaborate and work in a team-based environment
Physical/Mental Demands and Working Conditions
- General office, home office, and theatre setting, primarily on weekdays
- Fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Occasional evenings and weekends may be required
- Must be able to work in front of a computer screen for long stretches
