Heartland Pulmonary & Sleep Medicine is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate must thrive in a collaborative environment where responsibilities are shared to ensure efficient patient care and clinic operations.
Responsibilities
- Process and track prior-authorization requests with insurance plans.
- Perform clinical tasks such as checking vital signs, preparing patients for physical exams, and verifying prescriptions based on physician’s orders.
- Document patient assessments, interventions, responses, medications dispensed, and test results accurately in medical records.
- Assist patients with transfers and escort them to examination or procedure rooms.
- Answer phone calls and provide appropriate information as directed.
- Administer medications and treatments under physician guidance.
- Complete clerical tasks, including managing patient medical records, obtaining lab and imaging reports, processing referrals, and ensuring accurate documentation in electronic medical records (EMR).
- Verify insurance coverage, schedule appointments, and update patient demographics as needed.
- Maintain infection control and patient confidentiality in accordance with clinic policies.
- Educate patients by providing wellness materials and communicating physician instructions.
- Uphold a clean and organized clinic environment by sanitizing exam rooms, restocking supplies, and maintaining equipment.
- Support clinic operations by promoting patient rights, responding to emergencies appropriately, and addressing concerns with the physician.
- Be cross-trained to perform front desk/receptionist duties when needed.
Skills
- Proficiency in medical terminology to communicate effectively with healthcare professionals.
- Ability to accurately measure and record vital signs.
- Excellent patient service skills, demonstrating compassion and attentiveness to patient needs.
- Familiarity with clinic systems for managing electronic health records and scheduling.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in clinical documentation.
Education
Medical assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution, or a community college course in medical assisting. Certification for Medical Assistant
Experience
Minimum three years of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant.
