DIRECTOR OF FINANCE

We are seeking a Director of Finance to provide strategic and operational leadership across the organization’s accounting and finance functions. This position will oversee financial reporting, accounting operations, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, compliance, and internal controls while partnering closely with the CFO and senior leadership team.
The Director of Finance will also serve as a key business partner to department leaders, helping translate financial information into actionable insights and supporting sound financial decision-making across the organization.
OVERVIEW OF THE DIRECTOR OF FINANCE ROLE:

Oversee all accounting functions, ledgers, and financial reporting systems to ensure accuracy, compliance with GAAP, Uniform Guidance, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Serve as the primary accounting liaison with IT for financial systems, technology initiatives, system integrations, and process improvements.

Supervise and provide leadership to the Accounting Manager and Payroll Specialist, with functional oversight of general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, grants, and contract administration.

Lead and continuously improve the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and efficiency.

Review financial reporting packages and present financial results, trends, variances, and recommendations to the CFO and department leaders.

Analyze financial performance at multiple levels, including cost centers, programs, and organizational operations.

Monitor organizational cash flow and cash forecasting, partnering with department leaders to understand operational needs and financial impact.

Develop, implement, and maintain finance policies, procedures, and internal controls.

Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process in partnership with senior leadership and department directors.

Develop budgets and financial narratives to support grant applications and ongoing funding initiatives.

Oversee government grants, contracts, funding requirements, and related financial reporting.

Manage the annual audit and tax reporting processes, coordinating schedules and information requests with external accounting firms.

Partner with program and department leaders to improve financial understanding, accountability, and adherence to accounting procedures.

Educate non-finance leaders on financial results, budgeting, expense management, and financial policies.

Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting, systems, and organizational efficiency.

Stay current on emerging accounting, finance, technology, and regulatory trends affecting the organization.

Support financial systems implementation, integration, and process optimization initiatives.

Provide leadership, mentorship, and professional development to finance and accounting team members.

Maintain strict confidentiality and ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE DIRECTOR OF FINANCE ROLE:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.

Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive finance management or senior-level accounting experience.

Strong knowledge of GAAP; familiarity with Uniform Guidance and government contracts/grants strongly preferred.

Experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, cash flow management, and month-end/year-end close.

Experience overseeing or supporting government grants, contracts, funding, and revenue cycle management preferred.

Strong Excel skills, including complex data manipulation, financial analysis, and reporting.

Experience partnering with senior leadership to develop and improve financial management processes.
