Summary
Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervises, trains and evaluates DWI Court Clerk, Court Clerks, Court Clerks assigned to the County Courts system, Criminal Filing Clerks and Bond Forfeiture Clerks
Prepares and processes appeals from the City Municipal Courts and Justice of the Peace Courts
Prepares and monitors section statistics, BCIS reports and budget information; order and maintain supplies/fixed assets
Receives and inventories criminal evidence, non-disclosures and psychiatric evaluations
Monitors section computer operations, arrange for maintenance, repairs, and coordinate with IT department to resolve technical issues
Monitors section staff access to database information and computer training
Answers questions in person and by telephone regarding criminal case filing, appeal procedures, bond forfeiture and individual court procedures for attorneys and the public
Assists with employee hiring, evaluation and promotion decisions
Makes recommendations regarding division personnel actions, procedural modifications, status reports, work priorities, and schedules for section employees
Coordinates resolution of issues pertaining to conflicts, court staff effectiveness and individual court policies for the Criminal County Courts
Submits monthly county court statistics to the Office of Court Administration
Oversees daily updating to the Adult Probation Cash System with Court Fees
Testifies at court hearings on behalf of the County Clerk’s Office
Performs related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications :
Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree in Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, or closely related field, and three years court operations or administration experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Must have a valid Criminal Justice Information Service certification
Must secure and maintain Bexar County Information System certification and Cashiering System certification
Considerable knowledge of Texas Local Government Code, Texas Criminal Procedures, Code and Rules; good knowledge of office management procedures, criminal court and bond forfeiture procedures; good knowledge of appeal and transcript procedures; good knowledge of civil and criminal court procedures; good knowledge of English, spelling, grammar and punctuation
Skill in understanding and applying State Criminal Codes and State Bond Forfeiture Codes
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; ability to operate personal computer and basic office equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, co-workers, County employees, Elected/Appointed Officials, other government agencies, outside organizations, attorneys and the public
Acts in the name of the County Clerk and shall perform all official acts as may be lawfully done and performed by such Clerk in person, pursuant to Section 82.005(c) of the Texas Local Government Code
Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
Must secure a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek.
