Arlington County’s Public Library is seeking an innovative Cataloging and Metadata Librarian to join the Collections, Access & Technology’s Cataloging and Metadata Team. This position will work closely with colleagues to ensure our collections and services meet the needs of our community and to support the management of quality control of the cataloging and processing of all library materials ensuring all proper cataloging standards and procedures are followed.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Library Science or Library & Information Science from an ALA accredited college or university; and
For this position, considerable experience providing library services with at least one year of working for a public library.
Please Note: Employees may be hired up to the senior level which requires significant experience or may be hired at lower levels which requires considerable experience at the journey level and some experience at the entry level.
Desirables: The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in one or more of the following:
Library cataloging and acquisitions workflows, including the application of metadata standards and authority control practices such as Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC), AACR2, MARC/MARC21, Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH), OCLC, Resource Description and Access (RDA), Library of Congress Classification (LCC), and the Library of Congress Name Authority File (LCNAF); and/or
Working with Integrated Library Systems (ILS) and Online Public Access Catalogs (OPACs)/discovery layers. Experience with Koha and Aspen Discovery is highly desirable.
Additional Information
Work location and hours of work: Part-time, 30 hours per week including some evening and weekend work. Actual work schedule is determined by the needs of the work location; assignment location could change over time.
