Position Summary
The Iowa Hub Supervisor plans, dispatches, and supervises the Hub, Specialized, and hourly driver fleets operating out of the Cedar Rapids, Iowa terminal. This position balances customer service commitments, driver productivity, and driver retention to ensure that loads are covered safely, on time, and in accordance with company standards and regulatory requirements.

Essential Responsibilities
- Supervise, plan, and dispatch the Iowa Hub, Specialized, and hourly driver fleets based out of the Cedar Rapids terminal.
- Partner with the sales team and Planning Lead to meet revenue goals and to secure both a head-haul and a back-haul for each driver daily.
- Monitor load and driver movement, coordinate relays as necessary, and assess driver capacity to meet specific customer commitments.
- Anticipate service shortfalls, develop contingency plans, and communicate proactively with customers, management, and drivers to minimize service interruptions.
- Serve as the direct liaison between drivers, shippers, and West Side Transport, clearly communicating customer and company expectations for each load.
- Support driver retention by recognizing signs of driver dissatisfaction, responding promptly to concerns, and escalating issues to management when appropriate.
- Maximize fleet productivity and utilization by monitoring drivers’ Hours of Service (HOS), improving load assignments, and understanding the unique requirements of individual customers and drivers.
- Identify areas within the Iowa Hub fleet that require improvement or adjustment and make recommendations to management.
- Promote a strong safety culture by supporting compliance with DOT regulations, HOS requirements, driver qualification standards, accident reporting procedures, and company safety initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable company policies and federal, state, and local regulations, including DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements.
- Assist with the onboarding, training, coaching, and performance development of assigned drivers to ensure adherence to company standards and best practices.
- Respond promptly to operational challenges, customer service concerns, and equipment breakdowns, coordinating with maintenance and other departments as needed.
- Cross-train with related departments and participate in company-wide training opportunities as business needs require.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position provides direct supervision to drivers assigned to the Iowa Hub, Specialized, and hourly fleets, including day-to-day work assignment, coaching, and performance feedback. The Iowa Hub Supervisor partners with fleet management, Safety, and Human Resources on hiring, corrective action, and performance management, and works to maintain mutual respect and professionalism that sustains a positive team environment.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or GED.
- One or more years of supervisory or management experience.
Preferred
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Two or more years of experience in transportation, trucking, logistics, dispatch, or fleet operations.
- Prior experience supervising a driver fleet in a hub, dedicated, or regional operation.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Working knowledge of DOT regulations, FMCSA compliance requirements, and Hours of Service (HOS) regulations.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to give clear direction to drivers and coordinate across departments.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team while working independently.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
- High attention to detail with excellent documentation and recordkeeping skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, transportation management software, and onboard or satellite communication systems is preferred.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and on-call schedules as business needs require.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.
- Frequent use of standard office equipment, including computers, telephones, and onboard communication systems.
- Occasional walking throughout the terminal and yard.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis.
