Your role with us
As a phlebotomy technician at Salem Health, you'll play an essential role in delivering exceptional patient care by ensuring accurate and timely specimen collection for diagnostic testing. What you'll do

Collect blood specimens and perform point-of-care testing by following established laboratory procedures, ensuring accurate patient identification and proper specimen collection, labeling, handling, and transport.

Prioritize and collect critical and STAT specimens promptly to support timely diagnosis and treatment for patients throughout the hospital.

Maintain a safe environment by following infection prevention protocols, utilizing personal protective equipment (PPE), and adhering to laboratory and organizational safety standards.

Serve as a laboratory dispatcher as assigned by managing multiple incoming calls, accurately documenting and relaying information, and communicating professionally with laboratory staff, nursing teams, providers, and other departments.

Collaborate with laboratory and interdisciplinary care teams during routine patient care as well as emergency situations, including codes and traumas, to support efficient, coordinated patient care.

Organize and prioritize daily workload to maintain efficiency, accuracy, and excellent service while ensuring department calls are answered promptly and professionally.

Participate in quality assurance activities and continuous improvement initiatives to maintain departmental performance standards and enhance the patient experience.

Support the development of students and new team members through knowledge sharing and training opportunities as appropriate.
Required qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Completion of an accredited phlebotomy program or sufficient phlebotomy experience that qualifies the candidate to sit for a nationally recognized phlebotomy certification examination.

Certified Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) certification required within six months of hire.

Certification through ASCP, NHA, NHCO, or another leader-approved nationally recognized certifying agency with a proctored examination.

One year phlebotomy experience OR successful completion of an accredited phlebotomy program.
