Overview
Join our team as a dedicated Local Independent Contractor Semi Truck Driver and take charge of delivering freight efficiently and safely across your designated routes. Responsibilities
- Operate tractor-trailers with manual transmissions across local routes, adhering to all safety and traffic regulations.
- Load and unload freight using appropriate equipment such as forklifts or roll-off trucks, ensuring cargo integrity and safety.
- Handle a variety of freight types including refrigerated goods, flatbed loads, tankers, and other specialized trailers.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections on trucks and trailers to confirm roadworthiness and compliance with safety standards.
- Manage route driving efficiently to meet delivery schedules while maintaining fuel efficiency and safety protocols.
- Secure cargo properly during transit to prevent shifting or damage, especially when transporting delicate or heavy items.
- Communicate proactively with dispatchers and clients regarding delivery times, route changes, or issues encountered during trips.
Experience
- Proven experience in truck driving with a focus on commercial driving operations involving tractor-trailers.
- Familiarity with load & unload procedures for various freight types such as refrigerated goods, flatbeds, tankers, and dump trucks.
- Hands-on experience operating manual transmission trucks is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of safety regulations related to trucking, including DOT compliance and hours-of-service rules.
- Prior delivery driver experience involving route driving within local areas is essential.
- Ability to operate auxiliary equipment like forklifts when necessary for loading or unloading cargo.
- Demonstrated ability to handle different types of trucks including roll-off trucks and dump trucks is a plus.
