About Nonprofit Staten Island (NPSI)
Since 2005, Nonprofit Staten Island (formerly known as the Staten Island Not for Profit Association), a 501c3 membership organization, has provided resources, support, and advocacy for the borough’s nonprofit community. The Association was created to provide a single "voice" for nonprofits in Staten Island, and to enhance the economic and social impact that nonprofits provide to Staten Island communities. Members include 150+ cultural institutions, faith-based organizations, health care providers, senior & youth service providers, and local community groups that provide services and programs for our diverse Staten Island communities and neighborhoods.
Guided by our pillars of Community Voice, Community Response, and Community Building, Nonprofit Staten Island strengthens the borough’s nonprofit ecosystem through capacity-building programs, coalition leadership, civic engagement initiatives, and cross-sector partnerships. We connect organizations to resources, amplify community priorities, and help ensure Staten Island nonprofits have the support they need to serve residents effectively and equitably.
Position Summary
Nonprofit Staten Island seeks a part-time Outreach Coordinator, Programs & Development to strengthen communications, outreach, and development workflows across our portfolio. This position will serve as a key liaison between the Programs & Development team and the Operations/Communications function, helping ensure NPSI’s programs, events, initiatives, and fundraising efforts are communicated clearly, promoted consistently, and supported with strong coordination.
Reporting to the Director of Programs & Development and working in close collaboration with the programming team, the Outreach Coordinator will help prepare program descriptions, flyers, website content, e-blasts, social media copy, event materials, and post-event assets. This role will collaborate directly with NPSI’s Communications Coordinator to help move content from planning to promotion in a timely, accurate, and mission-aligned way.
This position also supports in-community outreach needs, including printed materials, tabling coordination, partner follow-up, and event visibility, as well as development-related workflows tied to signature events, sponsorship outreach, donor stewardship, and press/media releases.
This role is ideal for someone who is highly organized, proactive, collaborative, and comfortable managing multiple moving pieces across initiatives and departments.
This is a part-time, hybrid position, averaging 20 hours per week.
Primary Responsibilities
I. Program Communications & Promotion Support
Support the preparation and promotion of Nonprofit Staten Island programs, events, workshops, coalition activities, and community initiatives.
- Draft and organize program-related communications materials, including event descriptions, website copy, e-blast language, social media captions, registration language, flyers, and partner blurbs.
- Gather key details from team members, partners, speakers, and facilitators to ensure promotional materials are complete, accurate, and aligned with NPSI’s voice.
- Coordinate with the Communications Coordinator to move content from planning to promotion across NPSI channels.
- Help maintain promotion timelines, content trackers, and shared materials related to upcoming programs and events.
- Support post-event communications, including recap blurbs, thank-you language, photo collection, resource sharing, and website updates.
II. Outreach & Community Engagement Support
Help Nonprofit Staten Island reach members, partners, stakeholders, and community participants through organized outreach and in-community visibility.
- Coordinate outreach materials and logistics for community-facing programs, coalition activities, signature events, and special initiatives.
- Support tabling and in-community outreach needs, including print materials, partner toolkits, QR codes, sign-in sheets, talking points, and supply tracking.
- Assist with tailored outreach to nonprofit members, partners, elected officials, community stakeholders, and program participants as needed.
- Maintain organized outreach lists, partner contacts, distribution records, and follow-up notes.
- Help gather stories, quotes, photos, and examples from programs and community events to support NPSI’s storytelling and visibility.
III. Development, Events & Internal Coordination Support
Provide coordination support for development workflows, signature events, and the internal systems that help programming and outreach run smoothly.
- Support sponsorship and donor outreach workflows, including solicitation materials, outreach lists, email drafts, follow-up trackers, and stewardship notes.
- Assist with outreach and materials for NPSI signature events, including the Annual Conference, Annual Meeting, Cultural Spotlight, and Community Service Awards.
- Help coordinate sponsor and donor recognition needs, including logo collection, program book content, website updates, social media acknowledgments, signage, and post-event stewardship.
- Support press and media release workflows by helping organize release content, quotes, event details, review steps, and outreach lists.
- Maintain organized project folders, templates, copy banks, trackers, and shared materials related to programs, outreach, events, and development.
- Assist with light administrative follow-up tied to outreach and communications workflows, such as registration tracking, attendance documentation, meeting notes, and basic program data collection.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate is a collaborative, organized, and proactive professional who is comfortable supporting communications, outreach, events, and development workflows in a mission-driven nonprofit environment.
- 2–4 years of experience in nonprofit communications, outreach, program coordination, development support, event coordination, or a related field.
- Strong writing skills, with the ability to prepare clear, engaging, and audience-appropriate content.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, especially when managing timelines, materials, and follow-up items.
- Ability to gather information from multiple sources/team members and translate it into usable communications or outreach materials.
- Comfort coordinating across teams and helping move shared work from planning to completion.
- Familiarity with donor, sponsor, or fundraising communications preferred.
- Comfort working across tools such as Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Zoom, Canva, and email marketing platforms such as Constant Contact or similar tools.
- Familiarity with WordPress, basic CRM/tracking systems, or project management tools a plus.
- Familiarity with Staten Island’s nonprofit and community landscape strongly preferred.
- Bi- or multilingual skills a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly rate: $30 per hour
