What you'll do:

Develops and provides individual, group, and bedside activities for residents that reflect interests of residents, are offered at hours convenient to residents, appeal to all age groups, appeal to both men and women, take place in a variety of locations, and include special and seasonal events.

Develops and posts monthly activities calendar.

Interviews residents, interested family members, legal representatives, and significant others to obtain and update information needed to develop individualized activities programs, to accommodate individual needs, preferences, and to protect and promote residents' rights.

Participates in the development of the department budget and provides relevant financial information to the Administrator regarding department financial needs and status.

Hires and retains qualified competent activity staff and volunteers, conducts interviews, provides regular performance reviews, takes appropriate job actions, reviews job actions taken by subordinates to assure that staff meet qualification and performance standards and can perform all essential functions of the job.

Actively participates in long term care survey process by instructing staff in matters of conduct and disclosure, maintains a presence while surveyors are on-site and directs the timely collection of information required by the survey team. Demonstrates concern for identified problems and undertakes corrective action while survey is in progress if appropriate.

What we're looking for:
-
High school diploma or equivalent
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (TRS) or Master Therapeutic Recreational Specialist (MTRS)
- Ability to read, speak, and understand English
- 2+ years of experience in social or recreational programming within the past 5 years
- At least 1 year of full-time experience in a healthcare resident activities program (or equivalent qualifying experience)
- Or qualification as an Art, Music, Dance, or Recreation Therapist
- Or completion of 36+ hours of DHS-approved activity director training
- May be exposed to bodily fluids and communicable illnesses
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods
- Adequate vision and hearing (with or without assistive devices)
- Meets facility health requirements and standards
