We are looking for a Quality Control Inspector with structural steel fabrication experience to monitor workmanship, materials, welding, and coatings for compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
This is a hands-on shop-floor position in an active, non-climate-controlled manufacturing environment. The role involves limited office work and regular standing, walking, and material inspections.
- Inspect structural steel and fabricated components for quality and specification compliance.
- Verify work meets AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, AISC, and applicable industry standards.
- Check incoming materials, parts, and consumables for conformance.
- Record inspection results and maintain quality documentation and logs.
- Use and maintain inspection equipment and welding-related tools.
- Calibrate welding equipment and quality inspection tools as needed.
- Assist with welder qualification testing and certification.
- Support training involving welding, fitting, and quality requirements.
- Maintain drawing control and other quality processes.
- Work with production and management to identify and correct quality issues.
- Participate in continuous improvement and training activities.
- Promote safe work practices throughout the facility.
- 2+ years of structural steel fabrication experience
- Quality control, inspection, or manufacturing experience
- Working knowledge of AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, and AISC
- Ability to read fabrication drawings and specifications
- Experience using inspection tools such as:
- Fillet weld gauges
- V-WAC gauges
- Squares
- Tape measures
- Other standard inspection equipment
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety
- Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification
- Experience with Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), or Penetrant Testing (PT)
- Certifications related to structural steel fabrication, bolting, coatings, or welding inspection
- Previous steel manufacturing experience
- Primarily shop-floor based with limited office work
- Non-climate-controlled manufacturing facility
- Regular standing, walking, and inspection of materials
- Exposure to varying temperatures
