The Litigation Paralegal independently manages litigation support activities for a portfolio of personal injury cases through all phases of litigation. This role is responsible for drafting and filing legal documents, coordinating service of process, supporting discovery efforts, maintaining case deadlines, and assisting attorneys with hearings, mediations, and trial preparation.
The Paralegal serves as a key resource to attorneys and legal staff by ensuring litigation files are maintained accurately, deadlines are met, and case activities are executed efficiently. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong knowledge of litigation procedures, exercises sound judgment, and requires limited supervision in carrying out assigned responsibilities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Case Management
- Independently manage assigned litigation caseloads.
- Maintain accurate case information and documentation within Litify.
- Track court deadlines, scheduling orders, discovery deadlines, and litigation milestones.
- Monitor case progression and proactively identify outstanding tasks or issues.
- Coordinate litigation activities between attorneys, clients, experts, and third parties.
Pleadings & Motion Practice
- Draft and file routine pleadings, motions, notices, affidavits, and legal correspondence.
- Prepare service packets and coordinate service of process activities.
- Track service status and follow up with process servers.
- Prepare motions related to service issues and procedural matters using established templates.
- Maintain court filing records and ensure compliance with court rules and deadlines.
Discovery Management
- Draft and coordinate discovery requests and responses.
- Organize document production and exhibit materials.
- Review files to ensure discovery compliance.
- Coordinate responses to interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for disclosure.
- Prepare discovery materials for attorney review.
Investigation & Fact Development
- Conduct factual investigations and obtain supporting documentation.
- Research parties, witnesses, insurance carriers, and corporate entities.
- Analyze records and identify missing information necessary for litigation.
- Assist attorneys in developing case facts and supporting evidence.
Client & Third-Party Communication
- Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients regarding litigation updates.
- Coordinate communications with experts, medical providers, courts, process servers, and opposing counsel offices.
- Respond to routine case inquiries and assist with gathering requested information.
Trial, Hearing & Mediation Support
- Coordinate hearing, mediation, and deposition preparation.
- Organize exhibits, witness files, and trial notebooks.
- Prepare hearing and mediation materials.
- Assist attorneys with trial preparation activities.
- Coordinate witness scheduling and document preparation.
Compliance & Professional Standards
- Ensure all case activities comply with applicable court rules and firm procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality of client and firm information.
- Adhere to ethical and professional standards.
- Identify opportunities to improve litigation workflows and processes.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required Education & Experience
- Associate degree, Bachelor's degree, Paralegal Studies degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3–5 years of litigation paralegal experience.
- Experience supporting litigation matters from filing through resolution.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with legal case management systems, preferably Litify.
- Working knowledge of state and federal court procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- ABA-approved Paralegal Certificate.
- Personal injury litigation experience.
- Experience preparing discovery and trial materials.
- Bilingual English/Spanish.
