LOCATION: Remote – must live in or near Alamance, Granville, Franklin, or Vance County, NC. The person in this role must maintain residency in North Carolina or within 40 miles of the North Carolina border. Must have ability to travel to Vaya Partners offices as needed.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
This position develops and maintains collaboration among local agencies, community stakeholders, advocacy groups and political units, such as County Managers and Boards of Commissioners. The position serves as a collaborative partner in identifying system barriers, developing solutions, and leading related efforts in the assigned communities. This position works with other Vaya departments to address identified needs within the region.
Note: This position requires access to and use of confidential healthcare information or protected health information (PHI) as described in laws addressing patient confidentiality, including, but not limited to, the federal HIPAA law, the Confidentiality of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Patient Records law, 42 CFR Part 2, and various state laws. As such, the individual filling this position shall be required to be trained regarding such laws and shall be required to observe those laws in his/her capacity as an employee of Vaya Health. The individual filling this position shall also sign a confidentiality statement as an employee of Vaya Health.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Community Relations:
Represents Vaya and fulfills the MCO’s role in meeting community stakeholder needs by serving on related community boards and agency committees. Examples include, but are not limited to, regular meetings with Health Department, DSS, school system, DJJ, law enforcement leadership personnel, County Managers, County Boards of Commissioners, and other designated Vaya stakeholder groups or individuals. Responds to inquiries and concerns from agencies and stakeholders by resolving the issues or identifying other Vaya departments to assist. Educates and informs community agencies and boards about MCO functions, resources, and provider capacity. Strives to address barriers that prevent members or other stakeholders from achieving full participation in their communities; offers related recommendations to MCO Management Team for direction when items of concern are identified and require resolution. Independently identifies and intervenes to offer solutions to issues between local stakeholders and the MCO.
Training and Support of Staff:
The Community Relations Regional Director empowers Vaya members and their communities to identify needs, employ community resources (as feasible), and generate local solutions to help bridge healthcare gaps. In developing each community’s capacity to address existing health disparities team members foster collaborative relations and promote effective partnerships among stakeholders. Such partnerships among stakeholders. Such partnerships support community engagement and serve as the foundation for developing community-driven approaches to addressing healthcare needs.
Vaya Health Leadership Member:
Participates as a member of Vaya’s Leadership in making decisions and providing leadership to the agency. Represents the needs and issues of their assigned counties (4 to 7 counties) to Vaya Leadership, and keeps the team informed of issues for the region. This position represents Vaya Health in many venues in their assigned region such as County Board of Commissioners, local providers, and agencies. This person also provides regional input into the UM State Plan for their region and any initiatives or projects in the region.

A high level of diplomacy and discretion is required to effectively negotiate and resolve issues. This will require exceptional interpersonal skills, highly effective communication ability, and the propensity to make prompt independent decisions based upon relevant facts. Problem solving and conflict resolution skills are essential. Demonstrate effective leadership presence required, with demonstrated confidence in dealing with unknown and complex issues. Awareness of and sensitivity to local political issues.
In the Community Relations Regional Director role, the employee must have knowledge of mental health, developmental disabilities and substance abuse services systems and evidence-based practices and programs. The employee must have a willingness to become proficient in all disability areas, including areas where co-occurring illnesses exist. This is a high-profile community position and as such, the person must be well spoken and able to quickly establish rapport, credibility, and rapport with others, as well as communicate clearly and effectively. A core requirement of this position is to build string relationships between Vaya Health and each community.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in public service administration, psychology, social work, education, health, business administration or related human service field.

Three years of experience in human services or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred work experience:

Experience in any of the following areas would be valuable for this employee: Public speaking, presentation development, group facilitation, advocacy, regulations compliance and project management.

SALARY: Depending on qualifications & experience of candidate. This position is exempt and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
