Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) to join our dynamic team. This vital role involves performing advanced chairside procedures, supporting clinical operations, and ensuring the highest standards of infection control and patient care. Duties
- Assist dentists with complex procedures including prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry using four-handed dentistry techniques.
- Prepare treatment rooms with sterilized instruments and materials, adhering strictly to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), including 3D scans, ensuring accurate positioning and safety compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Manage patient records within electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix, maintaining accuracy in medical documentation and coding.
- Measure vital signs and medical history to support comprehensive patient assessments, especially for pediatric patients.
- Support administrative functions such as scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and assisting the dental receptionist as needed.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and medical terminology to facilitate effective communication within the team.
Requirements
- Valid Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) certification/license with experience in general dentistry settings.
- Proficiency in EMR systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix; familiarity with Epic is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of infection control practices, aseptic technique, and sterilization procedures.
- Experience with pediatric dentistry, including taking X-rays and vital signs for children.
- Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently during various procedures such as endodontics, prosthodontics, and restorative treatments.
- Knowledge of dental imaging technology including 3D scanners and medical imaging techniques.
- Excellent understanding of dental assisting procedures combined with strong communication skills to educate patients effectively.
