Duties
- Assist the dentist during a variety of pediatric dental procedures, including exams, cleanings, X-rays, and restorative treatments.
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing and organizing dental instruments and equipment according to infection prevention management protocols.
- Take and develop dental X-rays using digital imaging systems such as Dentrix , ensuring patient safety and comfort.
- Manage patient records accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic or similar platforms, maintaining clinical confidentiality policies.
- Monitor vital signs and assess patient comfort levels throughout procedures to ensure a positive experience.
- Educate young patients and their guardians on oral hygiene practices and post-treatment care using clear dental terminology.
Experience
- Prior experience working in a dental clinic setting, especially with pediatric dentistry or general dentistry environments.
- Proficiency with EMR systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic for medical documentation and records management.
- Knowledge of dental assisting techniques including four-handed dentistry, chairside assisting, dental instrument processing, and aseptic technique.
- Familiarity with dental equipment including 3D scanners, dental sterilization procedures, and medical imaging devices like dental X-ray units.
- Understanding of healthcare infection prevention and control standards specific to pediatric patients and dental clinics.
- Ability to communicate effectively using medical terminology relevant to dentistry and pediatrics while maintaining clinical confidentiality policies.
- Certification in X-ray exposure techniques and infection control practices is highly desirable; additional training in oral surgery or endodontics is a plus.
