SESSION DIRECTOR
Camp Challenge is a Christian camp and retreat center in south central Indiana. We exist to develop
followers of and leaders for Jesus Christ by encouraging disconnection with everyday distractions and
reconnection to God through His creation. We are in search of session directors for one or more of our
summer camp sessions. Session directors are expected to work closely with camp staff and the program
committee chair, attend the staff & volunteer retreat, and be in residence during their camp session.
Responsibilities
- Work with the program committee to select each summer’s camp theme
- Assemble a session leadership team with strengths complementary to one’s own in regard to
outdoor ministry (for example, a “creative” person to plan games and activities, a “detail”
person to coordinate and execute, a “people” person to pastor and connect with campers)
- Along with your leadership team:
o Plan age-appropriate activities (field games, arts and crafts, devotions, worship services,
cabin contests, night games, etc.) designed to maximize fun, spiritual development, and
engagement with the outdoors within the context of each summer’s camp theme
o Set daily camp schedule
o Work within camp session budget to make purchases needed for camp activities
o Recruit counselors, speakers, musicians, and other volunteers
o Work with full-time camp staff to immediately address any camper, seasonal staff, or
volunteer issues (maltreatment disclosures, disciplinary concerns, health problems, etc.)
Qualifications
- Mature in their Christian walk with Jesus Christ
- Able to live and work in agreement with Camp Challenge’s code of conduct and core values
- Highly responsible
- A believer in the transformative potential of camp ministry
- Experienced with and passionate about the session age group
- Comfortable with campers of varying backgrounds
- Recommended by their current pastor
- Able to pass a criminal history background check
Time Commitment
- Fri evening-Sat afternoon the 3rd weekend in May for staff and volunteer training
• 2 hours prior to camp check-in opening day until 1 hour after pick-up closing day
• Off-site: 2-3 meetings with program committee; planning on your own through the year
Compensation
- Stipend of $225 per session (1/2 for Young Explorers); 1 stipend available per session
- All meals during session
- Private lodging during session
