Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic to join our team. This position requires a highly motivated, dependable, and safety-oriented individual capable of diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide variety of heavy equipment. The ideal candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced environment while ensuring equipment reliability and minimizing downtime.
This position is responsible for maintaining and repairing construction and heavy equipment, including but not limited to excavators, wheel loaders, dozers, motor graders, water pumps, crushers, screening equipment, and other diesel-powered machinery. Candidates with experience servicing both diesel and gasoline engines are strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine-related issues.
- Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled equipment inspections.
- Repair and replace engines, transmissions, hydraulic components, cooling systems, brakes, and driveline components.
- Troubleshoot electrical systems and electronic controls.
- Perform field and shop repairs as required.
- Read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and according to company standards.
- Keep tools, equipment, and work areas clean and organized.
- Work closely with supervisors and operations personnel to minimize equipment downtime.
Skills & Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of heavy equipment systems.
- Experience with diesel and gasoline engines.
- Ability to diagnose hydraulic and electrical problems.
- Ability to operate diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
- Valid driver's license preferred.
- Ability to work overtime and weekends when necessary.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience repairing and maintaining heavy equipment.
- Experience with construction, aggregate, mining, or earthmoving equipment is preferred.
