We are seeking an experienced QA/QC Inspector to join our structural steel fabrication team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all fabricated steel components meet customer specifications, industry standards, and applicable codes. This role requires hands-on inspection of fabrication activities, welding, dimensional accuracy, coatings, and documentation to maintain the highest level of product quality.
The successful candidate will have experience working in a structural steel fabrication environment and possess a strong understanding of AWS, AISC, and fabrication quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform in-process and final inspections of structural steel fabrication.
- Verify material identification, heat numbers, and traceability.
- Inspect fit-up, welding, cutting, drilling, and assembly operations.
- Review fabrication drawings, shop drawings, and customer specifications.
- Conduct dimensional inspections using tape measures, squares, calipers, and other precision measuring tools.
- Inspect welds visually in accordance with AWS standards.
- Coordinate Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) when required.
- Verify bolt hole locations, member dimensions, camber, and overall assembly accuracy.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, AWS D1.1, AISC standards, and company quality procedures.
- Maintain inspection reports, quality records, NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports), and corrective action documentation.
- Work closely with production supervisors, welders, fitters, and project managers to resolve quality issues.
- Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Verify coating preparation, paint thickness, and surface preparation when applicable.
- Assist during customer inspections and third-party audits.
- Ensure all quality documentation is complete prior to shipment.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 3+ years of QA/QC experience in structural steel fabrication or heavy metal fabrication.
- Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication processes.
- Ability to read and interpret structural steel fabrication drawings and blueprints.
- Experience performing dimensional inspections.
- Knowledge of welding inspection requirements.
- Familiarity with AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code – Steel.
- Understanding of AISC fabrication standards and quality requirements.
- Experience using measuring and inspection equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification preferred.
- Experience with ISO 9001 quality management systems.
- Knowledge of NDT methods (MT, UT, PT, RT).
- Experience with coating inspections and paint quality control.
- Familiarity with ERP or quality management software.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is a plus.

Physical Requirements

Pay: $25.87 - $30.77 per hour
