International Container Logistics Manager
Position Summary
The International Container Logistics Manager is responsible for managing the end-to-end transportation of international ocean containers from overseas suppliers through final delivery to company facilities or customers. This position oversees container scheduling, shipment tracking, customs coordination, transportation planning, and communication with freight forwarders, carriers, customs brokers, and internal departments to ensure on-time, cost-effective deliveries.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and capable of managing multiple international shipments simultaneously while maintaining excellent communication with domestic and international partners.
Essential Responsibilities
- Manage the complete door-to-door transportation process for international ocean containers.
- Coordinate shipments from overseas suppliers through ports, customs clearance, drayage, rail, and final delivery.
- Monitor shipment milestones and proactively communicate delays or potential disruptions.
- Schedule and coordinate container deliveries with warehouses, distribution centers, and receiving departments.
- Work closely with freight forwarders, customs brokers, ocean carriers, trucking companies, and rail providers.
- Ensure all shipping documentation is accurate and complete, including:
- Commercial Invoices
- Packing Lists
- Bills of Lading
- Arrival Notices
- Delivery Orders
- Customs documentation
- Track container status using carrier portals and transportation management systems.
- Coordinate customs clearance activities and resolve import-related issues.
- Monitor detention, demurrage, storage, and chassis usage to minimize unnecessary costs.
- Develop transportation schedules to meet inventory requirements and customer demand.
- Maintain accurate shipment records, delivery confirmations, and transportation reports.
- Investigate transportation delays and implement corrective actions.
- Build strong working relationships with international suppliers and logistics partners.
- Assist with freight cost analysis and identify opportunities to improve transportation efficiency.
- Support inventory planning by providing accurate shipment visibility and estimated arrival dates (ETAs).
- Ensure compliance with all applicable import, transportation, and company policies.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or equivalent work experience.
- 3+ years of international logistics, ocean freight, import/export, or supply chain experience.
- Strong understanding of international shipping processes and container transportation.
- Experience working with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and ocean carriers.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities simultaneously.
Preferred
- Experience with ERP systems.
- Knowledge of Incoterms.
- Experience coordinating customs clearance.
- Familiarity with ocean carrier and freight forwarding portals.
- APICS, CSCMP, or logistics certifications.

Physical Requirements
