Core Diagnostic Laboratories is hiring a detail-oriented Customer Service Representative for our laboratory team in Birmingham, AL.
As the front line of communication with the clients, collectors, providers, and sales representatives we serve, you'll resolve discrepancies and rejections, coordinate courier and supply logistics, and answer questions about testing and orders — keeping things accurate and moving through both slow and high-volume periods.
The ideal candidate pairs strong customer service instincts with hands-on laboratory knowledge, communicates clearly, solves problems independently, and stays organized under pressure. This role reports to and works directly alongside the Customer Service Manager.
Please note: this position works a Tuesday–Saturday schedule (Sunday and Monday off). Saturday hours are required every week and are a standing part of the role.
Responsibilities
- Communicate with clients, collectors, providers, and sales representatives by phone and email throughout the day
- Resolve order discrepancies, specimen rejections, and add-on test requests, following up with clients until each issue is closed out
- Track patient samples and answer client questions about laboratory testing
- Schedule courier pickups and ensure supply orders are packed and dispatched accurately
- Assist clients with the online client portal and help set up new clients
- Monitor and respond to team email inboxes and phone queues, prioritizing time-sensitive issues
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions, orders, and supply activity
- Follow established communication procedures, guidelines, and lab policies
- Escalate complex or unresolved issues to the Customer Service Manager when needed
Skills & Qualifications:
- Previous laboratory experience (clinical, administrative, or operational)
- Customer service experience, with strong phone-handling and active-listening skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy, especially during high-volume periods
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage competing demands without sacrificing quality
- Clear, professional, and empathetic communication
- Comfortable troubleshooting and problem-solving independently
- Proficiency in computer operations and Microsoft Office, with accurate data entry
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Familiarity with a laboratory information system (LIS) or client portal a plus
