Job Title: Automotive Tag and Title ClerkJob Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented, experienced Automotive Tag and Title Clerk to join our busy dealership. The ideal candidate will be responsible for processing vehicle legal titles and registration paperwork efficiently and accurately. You will act as the vital link between our dealership, our customers, and the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV/MVA), ensuring full compliance with state regulations and a seamless experience for our buyers.
Requirements: Must have prior automotive tag and title experience.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Title Processing: Prepare, verify, and process legal transfer of ownership for new, used, and wholesale vehicle transactions.
- Registration & Tagging: Submit all title and registration paperwork to the state DMV/MVA in a timely and accurate manner.
- Compliance: Maintain a deep understanding of current state laws and regulations regarding vehicle titles, registrations, and tax collections.
- Accounting & Reconciliation: Reconcile DMV/MVA billing schedules, process tag and title refunds, and ensure all state fees are accurately accounted for in the dealership’s accounting system.
- Research & Problem Solving: Conduct thorough research to resolve any title discrepancies, missing lien releases, or out-of-state registration issues.
- Customer & Team Collaboration: Assist customers, sales staff, and finance managers with title-related inquiries, providing exceptional and professional customer service.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate, organized physical and digital records of all title logs and documents.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 1–2 years of experience handling automotive tags and titles within a dealership setting is required.
- Dealership Software: Familiarity with automotive DMS platforms (e.g., Reynolds & Reynolds, CDK, Dealertrack) and electronic registration systems (e.g., CVR, DART) is highly preferred.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional data entry accuracy and organizational skills to prevent processing delays or penalties.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for interfacing with state agencies, internal teams, and clients.
- Proficiency: Comfortable using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) to track paperwork statuses.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $45,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
