Job Description: Spanish Speaking Toddler Classroom Assistant
Thriving, independently run bilingual Montessori school on Chicago’s north side is seeking a Spanish-speaking Toddler Assistant starting in August 2026. The ideal candidate is interested in learning about the technical, teaching aspects and has a true desire to collaborate with experienced teachers and young minds. The Toddler Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the integrated curriculum and reports to the Lead Teacher. Candidates must be observant, curious, willing to learn, enjoy spending time with toddlers, and have a calm, pleasant disposition while also being comfortable maintaining a position of authority and demonstrating an ability to multitask.
ESSENTIAL CLASSROOM DUTIES
- Model courtesy and respect to the children while speaking Spanish in a professional manner
- Assist in the classroom with students 18 months to 3 years of age in the mornings.
- Assist the Lead Montessori Teacher with set-up, cleaning, and maintaining the classroom
- Assist children in the bathroom with toilet learning and dressing/changing clothes as needed
- Assist children with the preparation and clean-up of food, work, and snack
- Assist with the preparation of the outdoor environment.
- Oversee a small group of napping students ages 3-4 years in the afternoons.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES ASSISTING THE LEAD TEACHER
- Material and Language lessons are given by the Lead Teacher with follow-up lessons in Spanish, as appropriate
- Assist with classroom maintenance
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Applicant must be 18 years of age and have a GED or high school diploma
- College courses related to the field of education, early childhood, or psychology are preferred
- 1-3 years of experience working with children 18 months to 3 years of age
- A thorough command of Spanish, which should be the candidate’s first language, and excellent knowledge of English.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Job Type: Full-time (Mon-Fri, 7:45 am - 3:45 pm, 37.5 hours/wk) OR Part-time (7:45 am - 1:45 pm, 30 hours/wk) following a school year calendar, late August through June.
Compensation: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
Benefits: Health insurance coverage $400/mo for full time employees (35 hours/week+) and 4 weeks paid time off at holidays for all staff.
