Job Summary
Maryknoll Sisters of St. Dominic, Inc., is a congregation of Catholic religious sisters who have served as missionaries since 1912, when we became the first group of Catholic sisters in the United States founded for overseas mission. The Staff Nurse, RN, provides direct patient care services, within professional competencies as ordered by a physician, and required by Resident's individual Care Plan.
Carries out responsibilities as specifically assigned by Nurse Supervisor of the shift in order to enable the shift staff team to complete their required responsibilities of patient care.
Provides proportionate share of shift team's services.
Responsibilities
1. Prepares and administers medications to patients according to theirindividualCare Plan and established policies and procedures for administration of medications, including:
a) gathering all required supplies, per patients' Medical Charts, and assembling them
on Medications Cart;
b) keeping informed and up-to-date on new medications and possible adverse reactions;
c) exercising care and precision in preparing and administering required dosages;
d) discussing with, encouraging, and supporting Resident to take prescribed medication;
e) following and documenting all required procedures and significant Resident responses, reactions and recommendations;
f) re-ordering medications as required.
2. Performs selected patient treatments as prescribed by physician, required by
individual patient's Care Plan, and directed and/or assigned by Nurse Supervisor.
Documents treatment provision.
3. Monitors Residents, as assigned, by taking vital signs, observing status
symptoms, reactions, progress, documenting as required; recommending
Care Plan changes, as appropriate.
Skills
(a) Ability, interest and energy to provide required nursing care to sick and elderly
patients.
(b) Ability to lift, transfer, reposition patients; to walk and stand most of time; to use equipment required for nursing care (for example, Hoyer lift, hopper, wheelchair,
feeding machines/whirlpool tub)
(c) Ability to tolerate exposure to infectious agents and disagreeable odors and ventilation limited by patients' desires.
(d) Knowledge of principles and processes for meeting quality standards of service.
(e) Ability to make sound judgments and decisions.
(f) Ability to carry information to others both verbally and in writing.
Pay: $42.00 per hour
