Program Director II
The University of Alabama at Birmingham
Under minimal supervision, to direct and manage complex, school-wide programs and strategic initiatives supporting the Dean of the School of Nursing. To operate with a high degree of independence, professionalism and confidentiality in support of the School’s mission and strategic priorities. To provide program development, administration, project oversight, strategic planning and operational leadership. To establish program objectives, timelines and performance measures and monitor outcomes. To manage programmatic fiscal activities, budgets, expenditures, travel and related administrative processes. To develop and implement operational systems, standard operating procedures and process improvements. To provide functional leadership to administrative staff, including direct oversight of the Project Manager II. To collaborate with School leadership to align project portfolios and support enterprise-level execution.
To conduct research, data analysis and needs assessments and prepare reports, dashboards, presentations and recommendations supporting strategic decision-making. To coordinate committees, task forces, searches, events and special initiatives. To interpret and communicate University and School policies and support compliance with applicable guidelines. To represent the Dean and serve as a liaison with faculty, staff, students, senior leadership and external stakeholders. To prepare confidential correspondence, executive-level materials and formal communications on behalf of the Dean. May assist with grants, manuscripts, endowments, faculty affairs and other School priorities.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Directs Dean’s Office projects and school-wide initiatives, including planning, implementation, tracking, reporting and evaluation.
2. Establishes program objectives, priorities, timelines, performance measures and deliverables; monitors progress and recommends corrective actions.
3. Collaborates with the Director of Strategic Projects and other leaders to align priorities and coordinate enterprise-level execution.
4. Develops, implements and maintains standard operating procedures; monitors compliance and leads operational and process-improvement initiatives.
5. Provides functional leadership, coaching and performance input for the Project Manager II and other administrative staff; coordinates onboarding and cross-training.
6. Manages multiple projects, committees, task forces and working groups related to strategic planning, faculty development, retention and professional growth.
7. Analyzes data, conducts research and needs assessments, and prepares reports, dashboards and recommendations supporting strategic decisions.
8. Prepares confidential correspondence, reports, presentations, spreadsheets, databases, manuscripts and executive-level communications.
9. Coordinates processes involving travel, budgets, expenditures, human resources matters and administrative compliance; provides financial information and reports as needed.
10. Supports faculty affairs activities, including Promotion and Tenure processes, emeritus appointments, endowments and faculty or student matters.
11. Coordinates School of Nursing search committee processes to promote consistency and compliance across departments.
12. Interprets and communicates University and School policies to faculty, staff and students.
13. Represents the Dean with internal and external stakeholders and supports executive committees, events and special initiatives.
14. Performs other duties as assigned.
Salary Range: $60,835 - $98,855
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Master's degree in a Business or related field, and (3) years of leadership and related experience in program and project management, and/or professional development preferred.
Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent project management qualification preferred.
