Nurse Manager – Surgical Services
Location: Acute Care Hospital – Central Florida
Schedule: Full-Time | Days (Rotating Weekends)
Position Summary
A leading acute care hospital in Central Florida is seeking an experienced Nurse Manager – Surgical Services to provide operational and clinical leadership across its perioperative departments. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated nursing leader to oversee a high-performing surgical services team within a complex, fast-paced healthcare environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for driving operational excellence, supporting quality and patient safety initiatives, fostering staff engagement, and ensuring efficient day-to-day departmental operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the daily operations of Surgical Services, including the Operating Room (OR), Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR), Anesthesia, and Sterile Processing departments
- Lead, mentor, and develop multidisciplinary clinical teams to promote a culture of excellence and accountability
- Coordinate staffing plans, scheduling, and resource allocation to ensure safe and efficient patient care
- Support recruitment, onboarding, performance evaluations, coaching, and employee development initiatives
- Collaborate with physicians, department leaders, and hospital administration to optimize patient outcomes and operational efficiency
- Monitor departmental budgets, productivity metrics, supply utilization, and equipment needs
- Drive quality improvement initiatives focused on patient safety, customer satisfaction, and clinical outcomes
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, and organizational policies
- Foster strong relationships with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and perioperative staff to promote teamwork and collaboration
Scope of Responsibility
- Oversight of approximately 50 full-time employees, with responsibility for additional PRN staff members
- Leadership responsibility for:
- Operating Room (OR)
- Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR)
- Anesthesia Services
- Sterile Processing
- Reports directly to the Director of Surgical Services
- Provides leadership within a high-acuity, trauma-designated hospital environment
QualificationsRequired
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Florida or compact eligibility)
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Nursing Diploma
- Minimum 3 years of acute care Operating Room (OR) nursing experience
- Minimum 1 year of recent acute care OR leadership experience as a:
- Charge Nurse
- Clinical Coordinator
- Nursing Supervisor
- Nurse Manager
Relief or occasional Charge Nurse experience alone will not meet leadership requirements.
Preferred
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- CNOR certification
- Previous experience managing multiple perioperative departments
Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within six months of hire
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within six months of hire
