Circle City Broadcasting is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Chief Engineer responsible for maintaining the technology necessary for keeping the 24/7 broadcasts operational for WISH-TV, WRTV and WNDY, ensuring all stations are in compliance with all FCC requirements for engineering, and managing employees in the Engineering department.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for keeping all stations FCC compliant, including correcting any deficiencies in the operating standards in the applicable time frame set forth by FCC regulations.
- Negotiate vendor contracts, software licenses, and service agreements to cut costs or secure added value
- Oversee and maintain the stations’ entire capital expense process with awareness of needed upgrades and preventative maintenance schedules
- Assist as necessary in maintaining email, traffic, accounting and other software for efficient station operations
- Make changes in circuitry, design, and installation to adjust for assembly, maintenance and space requirements
- Program and install software and hardware for various communication systems related to the technical operation of the stations
- Maintain quality connectivity from studios to transmitters; including Microwave backup systems
- Monitor remote transmitter and server functionality via alert technology to ensure timely response time for resolution
- Maintains quality and consistency of on-air signal and operational equipment, and oversee transmitter sites
- Troubleshoot all on-air equipment malfunctions
- Implement and maintain FCC operational requirements while keeping abreast of FCC rules and other applicable state and local laws
- Oversee Engineering department personnel, including conducting performance reviews with all employees
- Collaborate and communicate with all station departments to achieve station goals
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Requirements
- Ability to work onsite at our Indianapolis facilities
- Demonstrated experience operating in both independent and collaborative environments
- Previous experience with television broadcast operations required
- Excellent multitasking ability, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; must be a team player
- Ability to remain calm and organized in a fast-paced environment
- Quick decision-making skills when needed
- Experience in building and overseeing major projects
- Proficiency with computers, email systems, software, and web-based applications (10+ years preferred)
- Background in broadcast technology, SBE certification, higher education in technology, or related military experience strongly considered
- Knowledge of signal broadcast patterns; related engineering studies; and FCC related filings
