Under the direction of the Clerk of the Board, the Communications Clerk is responsible for coordinating communications and public information activities for the Board of County Commissioners. The position prepares and distributes public communications, maintains the County Commissioners' website and digital content, assists with media relations, develops informational materials, supports public meetings and community outreach, and ensures communications are accurate, timely, accessible, and consistent with County policies. The position also provides administrative support to the Clerk of the Board and maintains appropriate public records.
Essential Job Functions
· Develop news releases, public notices, newsletters, and informational materials.
· Maintain and update the Commissioners' website and digital content, ensuring ADA accessibility compliance.
· Manage official social media accounts and coordinate public messaging approved by the Clerk of the Board.
· Demonstrated proficiency with industry-standard digital media and design tools, including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, as well as Canva for content creation and WordPress for website management.
· Photograph and document County events, meetings, and initiatives for public communication.
· Coordinate media inquiries and assist in preparing responses, statements, and talking points.
· Assist with public records, records retention, and meeting documentation as assigned.
· Coordinate community outreach activities and promote County programs and initiatives.
· Maintain consistent branding and communication standards across Board publications.
· Perform other duties and special projects assigned by the Clerk of the Board, Commissioners, or County Administrator.
Qualifications
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, English, Public Administration, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Three to five years of progressively responsible communications, public information, marketing, or administrative experience preferred.
Experience in local government or the public sector preferred.
Valid Ohio driver's license.
Pay: $22.11 - $26.69 per hour
